Commemorating 100 years since the Battle of Beersheba, 1917

Brisbane’s 2nd/14th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) held its largest ever mounted Freedom of Entry March into Brisbane City on the 28th October 2017 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Beersheba.

The parade saw over 150 troops, 20 horses and 65 military vehicles, including the Regiment’s brand new M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks, travel through the CBD before being halted and challenged by members of the Queensland Police Force. The granting of Freedom of Entry is a tradition with medieval origins and is the highest accolade a city can bestow upon a military unit.
